James Hardie graduated from the Glasgow School of Art in 1959.
He has received the following awards: the Keith Award (1958), Chalmers Bursary (1959), Torrance Award -RGI (1968), First Prize, Arbroath Festival (1971).
In July 2000 Ken Oliver's collection of James Hardie's paintings, over a 35 year period, were presented to Stirling University.
